How you store your sex toys between uses has a direct impact on their hygiene, longevity, and performance. A few simple habits can extend the life of your products significantly and ensure they're always ready to use safely.
The most important rule is to store each toy separately. Silicone toys stored in contact with other silicone toys can bond over time, and different materials can react with each other in ways that degrade the surface. Most quality toys come with a storage pouch or box — use it. If yours didn't, a clean cotton or satin pouch works well.
Store toys in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat and UV exposure can degrade silicone and cause discolouration in lighter-coloured toys. A bedside drawer or a dedicated storage box is ideal. Avoid storing toys in the bathroom, where humidity can encourage bacterial growth on porous materials.
Travelling with sex toys is entirely legal in Canada and most countries. Canadian Border Services Agency does not prohibit adult toys, and TSA in the United States treats them as personal items. Pack them in your checked luggage if you prefer privacy, or in your carry-on — security staff are trained to handle these items professionally and discreetly.
For travel, remove batteries from battery-operated toys to prevent accidental activation. For rechargeable toys, a travel lock (usually activated by holding the power button for several seconds) prevents the toy from turning on in your bag. Check your toy's manual for the specific lock sequence — most modern toys have this feature built in.
